Race Across the West Training

Did a 4 hour session on the trainer today- overall, over 8.5 hours for the week- plus three sessions of weight training. Knee feeling OK- just need to take precautionary care and ice after riding. Registration opens January 1, 2009

Will do a 5 hour session next Saturday- then a 7-10 hour session the week afterwards.....in addition to weight lifting and other spinning sessions....

Race Across the West

I have decided to enter the Race Across the West- sort of a mini RAAM. This race is in June and is "only" 1044 miles long with a 92 hour time limit.

www.raceacrossamerica.org has more details on the two races- which start simultaneously in Ocenaside CA on June 17. RAW ends in Taos, New Mexico, while the RAAM riders keep on going to finish up in Annapolis, MD- with the winner usually going the 3000+ miles in jst under nine days- surely Herculean.

Why do I do races like this when I swore after a DNF at Furnace Creek after 330 miles that " I would never do anything over 24 hours long?" Hmm..not sure I have a good answer for that. Certainly I am confident I can do it but NOT certain I can do it- I guess thats the biggest reason why.

The only X factor right now is my recovery from elective arthroscopic left knee surgery in October. While it is coming along fine- it is slower than I thought.

I have been cycling indoors- after taking October and November off, and am now in the 160 mile per week range....... Lets see how the knee holds up in the coming weeks..... Thats about the only thing that would stop me from toeing the line in June.

Have a great holidays and chat with you soon.
